Why invest in electronic identification Ear Tags?

Electronic tags are an added cost but one that can be leveraged to your advantage. Using Electronic identification ear tags will also ensure you are prepared for NAIT compliance in 2012. Even if you're not intending to move stock off your property (for example, if you only have small lifestyle block and one or two animals), you'll enjoy many benefits by adding electronic ear tags to your animals.

As well as making identifying your animals quicker and easier from a record-keeping perspective - using electronic identification tags makes livestock weighing and other on-farm animal management processes faster and easier, helping you make more informed decisions on your farm.

Electronic identification tags are scanned quickly and accurately by an electronic reader which:

  • records electronic identification tag numbers automatically
  • eliminates human errors which often occur when writing down visual tag numbers
  • picks up the tag signal from either side of the animal regardless of which side the tag is on
  • reads the tag signal correctly even if the tag is covered in dirt, mud or excrement
  • improves access and safety by minimising the need for close contact with the animals (an electronic tag reader picks up tag signals at a distance of between 300-900mm)
  • electronic identification tags also have a high retention rate, so they're less likely to dislodge from the animal (provided the tag is applied correctly).

Electronic ear tags teamed with a weighing and Electronic identification reading system will become the integral part in an automated and accurate recording system of your animal’s history.
