Darrell JonesDarrell Jones is Territory Manager for the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato region. He joined Gallagher Animal Management in January 2002 after eleven years with Coca-Cola as a district sales manager. Darrell and his partner Charlie have two children and live in Rotorua. They also farm a 20ha block at Kaharoa, where they rear about 100 calves a year. About half the calves are Friesian bulls, which are sold as yearlings, and the rest are mainly Hereford-Friesian calves that are carried through to 18 months of age. Being a farmer, albeit a part-time one, makes it easier for Darrell to understand the needs of his clients in a region that encompasses a broad range of farming types – from small orchards and lifestyle blocks up to large-scale dairy and drystock operations. This makes for a varied and challenging workload - ranging from offering advice on livestock weighing systems and EID, through to planning a new security system for an orchard or a complete fencing programme for a forestry conversion block. As well as being a Territory Manager for the region, Darrell is also a member of the Gallagher store merchandising committee. His hobbies include hunting and fishing. |
